With the flagship Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D processors on the horizon, gamers are naturally wondering if it makes sense to wait for the new processors or if the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is a better option. Martin Boonstra, AMD Product Development Manager, clarified the situation by predicting that the new processors will perform similarly to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D in terms of gaming.

"There won't be much of a performance difference; the new chips will perform slightly better in some games and slightly worse in others. In an interview with VideoGamer, Boonstra stated, "In general, their level is comparable."

AMD is targeting professionals who mix work and gaming with the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D. The new processors promise up to 10% performance gains over Intel Core Ultra 200S chips in content creation applications like Photoshop. Nonetheless, Ryzen 7 9800X3D is still the best option for gamers who are only interested in gaming.

The number of cores is the primary distinction between the new products: Ryzen 9 9900X3D has 12 cores, while Ryzen 9 9950X3D has 16. However, the majority of contemporary games only utilize eight cores, negating the gaming benefits of the new processors.

The official prices for the new products have not been announced yet, but experts assume that Ryzen 9 9900X3D will cost about $629, and Ryzen 9 9950X3D - $729. The start of sales of the new chips is expected at the end of January 2025.
