PlayStation Studios is once again facing turmoil, as another round of mass layoffs has hit the company, this time affecting the Visual Arts team, which handles artistic and technical support for Sony's projects. The employees impacted by these layoffs were involved in the development of The Last of Us remasters and had been working on recently canceled projects, including a live-service game from Bend Studio. According to sources, the scale of the layoffs was more extensive than initially anticipated.

As reported by Kotaku, employees were notified that their last working day would be March 7. Sony has yet to issue an official statement on the matter. However, former staff members, such as Abby LeMaster, have already spoken out, revealing that developers with decades of experience were among those let go, dealing a significant blow to the studio's potential.

These layoffs are the result of a series of costly failures, including the collapse of the Concord project, the cancellation of several live-service games—among them a God of War spin-off—and a major reorganization within the company's leadership. Sony's new CEO, Hiroki Totoki, and the head of PlayStation Studios, Hideaki Nishino, are now forced to reassess the company's investment strategy and priorities.

Sony continues to optimize its expenses by shifting development to regions with lower costs and reducing internal resources in the U.S. While these measures aim to improve efficiency, they have sparked concern among employees and the gaming community.
