The announcement was made during a virtual press conference Thursday afternoon, only a few days before the Season 1 finale that is set more than 10,000 years before the events of Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" films, explores the beginnings of the Bene Gesserit, a clandestine order of powerful witches who influence Arrakis' politics behind the scenes. The series, based on Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's novel "Sisterhood of Dune," follows the head of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood, Valya Harkonnen (played by Emily Watson), and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams), as they partner up to confront forces threatening humanity.

Set in Frank Herbert's Dune world, the series delves into the beginnings of the Bene Gesserit, a strong social, religious, and political group whose members have superhuman skills and talents as a result of years of hard physical and mental indoctrination.
