Terrible news has recently reached us. When Marc Laidlaw shared it with the world, people could not believe him. Unfortunately, it is not a fake, although we would wish for it to be one.
One of the key developers of Half-Life 2, art lead Viktor Antonov, has passed away. Thanks to him, the game that revolutionized the industry had such a striking visual style, and you could almost feel the vastness of City 17 through your screen.
But Half-Life 2 was far from Antonov’s only contribution to the gaming industry. He spent several years at Arkane Studios, working on Dishonored, and later became the visual design director at Zenimax.
Viktor managed to create unique and unforgettable worlds. You could never mistake City 17 for anything else. You could never mistake Dunwall for anything else. But more importantly, he inspired countless designers across the industry worldwide. Viktor was a truly one-of-a-kind artist. His passing is a tremendous loss for the entire gaming community.
