On its premiere day, the film managed to earn a modest $16 million, which is significantly lower than the box office performance of previous Disney remakes. Meanwhile, film industry experts had expected the movie to reach a total of around $100 million over its opening weekend.

Reality delivered an unpleasant surprise: the North American box office brought in only $43 million, while the international box office added $44.3 million, an amount even lower than the widely recognized flop Dumbo. As of today, the film’s global box office revenue stands at $87.3 million.

According to various reports, the production budget ranged from $240 million to $270 million (excluding marketing costs). This means that, taking theater shares into account, the movie needed to reach at least $500 million just to break even— a target that now seems completely unattainable.

Moreover, the film’s average IMDb score is an unprecedentedly low 2.3/10 based on 28,000 reviews. Among them, 21,000 viewers gave it the lowest possible rating of 1/10. This ranks among the worst scores for big-budget films in the platform’s history. For comparison, even last year’s Disney flop The Acolyte received a higher rating of 4.2/10.
