The developers draw inspiration from the darkest and most realistic aspects of the universe, as seen in Rogue One and the Clone Wars animated series. Creative Director Greg Ferts explained that the game will portray war through the lens of ordinary soldiers—without Jedi or Sith, but with strong narrative depth and thoughtful tactical mechanics. He noted that Clone Wars serves as a perfect foundation for gameplay implementation, as it focuses on clones rather than the mystical elements of the saga.
Co-Creative Director Kelsey Sharp emphasized that despite the realistic and "grounded" approach, the project remains true to the spirit of the franchise: hope, loyalty, and heroism remain at the heart of the story. According to him, Rogue One became a key reference point due to its focus on a small squad and their pivotal mission.
Players will engage in turn-based tactics reminiscent of XCOM, taking command of the elite "Zero Company" unit. Cover, grenades, and deep customization will be key to mission success. Special attention has been given to the training hub The Den, where squads can be reinforced with new recruits.
Star Wars: Zero Company releases in 2026 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
