Finally, you no longer have to play as a Witch if you want to travel the world of PoE2 in the company of a fun companion! With patch 0.2.0, characters of any class can tame a beast they fancy to make their journey more enjoyable. Unlike pets, a tamed animal is not just a decorative item or luxury. It is a true combat companion, dealing damage to enemies and capable of covering your back in tough times.

What do you need to tame a beast in PoE2?

Before setting out to find a new companion, make sure you have some unused Spirit available. In some cases, you may need to disable a skill or support gem, or give up the idea of taming altogether until your maximum Spirit increases. Keep in mind, however, that different monsters require varying amounts of Spirit once they’ve been tamed.

To begin with, you will need to acquire Tame Beast. Although this skill is located under Spear Skills, it is available for any class, regardless of the weapon you use. You will also need an uncut gem of level 9, at least character level 31, and 72 points in Dexterity. Therefore, classes that are based on this stat will easily meet the last requirement, while others may need to use equipment with bonuses or spend some points on the passive skill tree.

How to tame a beast in PoE2?

This cannot be done with just any monster. First, the skill will only work on mobs of the Beast type. To confirm that your potential companion is of this type, simply check the text beneath their name.

Second, you cannot tame ordinary beasts that roam the locations in abundance (let's be honest, you wouldn't want to!). You need rare, yellow mobs! After taming, these beasts will retain their abilities, so choose your future companion wisely.

Once you equip the Tame Beast skill gem, assign it to a hotkey. After activating it, you will see a debuff and a special glow appear on the monster. Now, you must defeat the monster while the debuff is still active at the moment of its defeat.

Congratulations, you are now the owner of a pocket monster living in your gem! You can summon and dismiss the beast by activating its skill gem, just like with Auras.

If you wish, you can "clean" the skill gem if the beast didn’t meet your expectations or create a new one to tame a different animal. Even if you have enough Spirit, you cannot summon more than one beast at a time. However, you can use different monsters in different situations by swapping them. For example, a companion with fire attacks will be much more useful in a fight against a boss weak to fire, and so on.

We hope that this new feature will diversify your gameplay experience and open up new opportunities for experimentation. Enjoy playing with your new companions!
