BLAST Premier continues its bold experiments with tournament formats, and today they hosted a show to determine the quarterfinal matchups. Notably, there was no traditional draw: instead, lower-seeded teams were allowed to pick their opponents from among the favorites.
The selection process was turned into a live event, which some may have found a bit contrived, but credit to BLAST for trying to spice up established traditions. As for the quarterfinal matchups, here’s what we have to look forward to:
It’s safe to say both G2 Esports and BB Team are likely satisfied with this draw. BB Team is objectively the weakest squad in Copenhagen, and that’s no slight against the players—it’s simply the reality of playing with two substitutes, one of whom is the IGL. In such a state, it’s nearly impossible to perform at full strength. That said, BB Team got the weakest team among the top-four seeds. Na`Vi and Team Spirit retained their rosters, while Team Vitality looks incredibly formidable.
The other matchups also seem to have clear favorites, and it feels like the real intrigue might not begin until the semifinals.
