Esports World Cup 2024 was one of the biggest esports events of the year, and its organisers are preparing for the next year. Recently, they shared details about the upcoming Counter-Strike 2 tournament.
This announcement is particularly interesting because of two things. First, it must exist in the paradigm of the new CS2 tournament license. Second, Counter-Strike 2 is one of the more popular games, so giving it more time and spotlight seems like an obvious decision.
So, in 2025 the Esports World Cup Counter-Strike 2 tournament will run for two weeks. The dates are August 10-23, 2025. Considering all the previous experience, this tournament will likely be the first huge tournament after a player break. It will have a prize pool of $1,250,000. However, it is unknown if the MVP reward will be active. This year, NiKo got the award and extra $50,000 of prize money.
There is one big upset, though. The Esports World Cup will not have any qualifiers. Sixteen teams, sixteen invites. The top teams will be decided via the Valve Regional Standings at the beginning of June. However, if the tournament occurs after the player break, there might be changes in rosters and the overall level of Counter-Strike might not be top notch.
Yet, Esports World Cup organisers will without a doubt make everything possible to bring the best possible spectacle and entertainment to CS fans.
