The RMR Asia-Pacific tournament doesn’t usually draw much attention, but this time, one of the most intriguing storylines unfolded there.
Well-known CS2 streamer Mark Zimmermann, better known as Ohnepixel, became the sponsor and coach of the team DRILLAS. He took on this role for content creation, the dream of getting into the game as a sticker, and the associated income. However, this move faced considerable backlash because the team used a loophole during the qualifiers, making a substitution that many felt went against the spirit of fair competition.
DRILLAS won their first match and managed to take the first map against The MongolZ. Unfortunately for Ohnepixel’s fans, the Mongolian team quickly rebounded and decisively defeated DRILLAS. In the lower bracket, DRILLAS faced another qualifying favorite, FlyQuest. The match went to triple overtime, where the Australian team ultimately emerged victorious.
Alongside The MongolZ and FlyQuest, Rare Atom also secured a spot in the major, ensuring Chinese fans will have a home team to cheer for.
