Punk wins EVO 2024 Street Fighter in a nail-biting grand final

EVO 2024 became the largest event in the history of fighting games, with the main focus on the Street Fighter 6 tournament. Over 5,200 participants registered and played in Las Vegas.

Punk has always been considered an extremely strong player, but something was always missing. He was the runner-up at the Capcom Cup in 2019, but this season, his results started to show. He won Frosty Faustings and CEO 2024, and he approached one of the main events of the year fully prepared.

Throughout the tournament, his Cammy was unstoppable, and Punk deservedly made it to the grand finals through the upper bracket. However, there he was shocked by Big Bird, who won the first set 3-0. The grand final reset will surely go down in fighting game history, as the tournament's fate was decided in the final round with the score tied at 2-2. Big Bird failed to low block Punk, and it was the American who became the champion. The last time an American won EVO in Street Fighter was in 2010.
