Although the Shanghai Major didn’t break viewership records—largely due to the challenging time zone, with matches starting unusually early for European audiences—it delivered a phenomenal final and set its own share of records. Specifically, these records were smashed by its MVP: donk.
When FaZe Clan captain Karrigan was playing his first Counter-Strike tournaments, donk hadn't even been born yet. Yet it was Team Spirit who emerged as champions, with donk claiming a Major victory in his first full season on the professional scene, leaving FaZe to endure a heartbreaking loss.
Two players from Team Spirit delivered incredible performances in the final. Magixx arguably played the game of his life, stepping up when sh1ro struggled to make an impact, while donk... well, when a prodigy drops 30 kills on the decisive third map, it’s something extraordinary.
Donk not only became the youngest Major winner in CS history, but also the youngest MVP of a Major. Additionally, he shattered s1mple’s record for the highest average rating at a Major (1.49 vs. 1.47) and broke the record for most aces at a single Major (4, surpassing flamie's 3 at IEM Katowice 2019).
There’s no longer any debate about who the best player of 2024 is. As they say: get donked!
