The MP1st website has shared details about the unannounced remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. These details are particularly interesting because they reportedly come from the portfolio website of an unnamed developer (kept anonymous for confidentiality), rather than from insiders. The project is indeed being developed by Virtuos Studio on the Unreal Engine 5 and will feature several major changes.

  • According to the portfolio of an ex Virtuos employee, Oblivion will be fully reimagined. This includes overhauls to mechanics such as stamina, stealth, attack blocking, archery, damage reactions, and the user interface.
  • The revamped blocking mechanics, for example, draw inspiration from Soulslike games, because the original blocking mechanics are considered dull and disappointing.
  • Additionally, the damage calculation system has been reworked, there will be visible reactions to being hit. Stamina is likely to be more user-friendly. UI and Archery also will be upgraded with the current trends in mind.

MP1st speculates, based on the gathered information, that initially the plan was to just remaster the game (as suggested by leaked Microsoft documents) but eventually evolved into a full-fledged remake.

The publication also reached out to its sources, who confirmed that the Oblivion remake will not be showcased during the upcoming Developer_Direct. However, we might not wait for too long, as there are rumours of the potential release this year.
