Exactly one week has passed since the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on Steam. During this time, the updated version of the cult classic RPG has attracted a substantial audienceāpeaking at 216,784 concurrent players. However, an analysis of achievement statistics reveals that the majority of players are only just beginning their journey in the revamped world of Cyrodiil.
The current data paints an interesting picture:
- Only 89.4% of players have completed the initial stageāescaping the Imperial Sewers
- Just 42.6% have reached the key story moment of closing at least one Oblivion Gate (and there are quite a few of them in the game)
- A mere 0.7% of players have reached the final credits of the main campaign
The statistics for guilds and factions are even more telling:
- The Mages Guild has attracted 29.8% of players, but only 1.7% achieved the rank of Archmage
- The Imperial City Arena interested 25.2%, yet only 10.3% became Grand Champions
- The Thieves Guild recruited 12.5%, but only 1.5% completed its full questline
- The Dark Brotherhood gained 11.5% new members, with just 2.1% finishing all of its missions
These results lead to several conclusions. First, a significant portion of the audience prefers leisurely exploration of the game world rather than focusing on story achievements. Second, many players are actively experimenting with modsāusing the developer console automatically disables the achievement system, and restoring it requires installing a special mod.
It's also worth noting that the abundance of user-made mods, which drastically alter gameplay or add new content, may be distracting players from completing the main questlines. This explains the low completion rates for story arcs a week after release. And besidesāthe game is simply massive, and even without mods, completing it requires a considerable amount of time.
