Video games are reaching a new level of engagement. It's no longer a secret that some games are used for educational purposes. For example, Assassin's Creed is used to study history. Now, it's Pokemon Go's turn.
The University of Iowa has created a new class dedicated to helping students understand math through Pokemon Go. This class even has its unique name — Pokemath. Now, for some, a difficult subject will be combined with gameplay, significantly easing the learning process and making it more interesting.
The idea was first put forth by the class’s teacher, Kitrick Fynaardt. He wanted to find something with a rich mathematical background that would also interest students. The teacher stated that Pokemon Go is a perfect fit.
Of course, Pokemath is already popular and in high demand. There is a waiting list for the first class, which is fully booked. This is not surprising. Pokemon is one of the most popular video game franchises of all time. Given such popularity and love for the project, students quickly seized the opportunity to study the franchise in any capacity, let alone a math class.
