The sensational Baldur's Gate 3 continues to surprise both players and developers alike. The game has been so successful that its peak online player count surpassed 800,000.
The numbers are impressive: even the head of Larian Studios, Sven Vincke, was astonished. He didn't expect online numbers exceeding 100,000 users. He even joked about it, saying he'd better not get too close to the development team. Vincke told them that there wouldn't be more than a hundred thousand players. As we can see, expectations were exceeded several times over.
In a conversation with PC Gamer, Sven Vincke shared his fear that Baldur's Gate 3 had peaked during early access. He relied on the fact that many early access games enjoyed success, but after their release, sales quickly declined as players had already played those games.
The head of Larian shouldn't worry too much, as Baldur's Gate 3 dominates the sales chart on Steam for the past week. The complete revenue list from August 1st to 8th looks as follows:
- Baldur's Gate 3;
- Call of Duty;
- Remnant II;
- Steam Deck;
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 — BlackCell (Season 05);
- American Truck Simulator;
- STARFIELD;
- BattleBit Remastered;
- Grand Theft Auto 5;
- Rust.
In the same interview, he mentioned that players shouldn't expect an expansion for the game, although this possibility isn't entirely ruled out.
Of course, with such success, developers can't help but work on improving the project. There's no rest, only honest and diligent work to attract even more players, higher ratings, and financial success.
It's pleasing when creators don't ignore user feedback. Larian Studios carefully monitor comments on the project and have already begun working on the next patch, which will bring significant improvements.
Michael Douse, the publishing director at Larian Studios, acknowledged that the game's interface needs further development. For example, the game's version will no longer be displayed during gameplay. He also hinted that changes might affect squad management and the cooperative mode.
