According to Circana analysts, Black Ops 6 became the best-selling game in the United States last year. The Call of Duty series has topped the list of U.S. market leaders for 16 years in a row.

The most popular sports game in the U.S. was EA Sports College Football 25, released on consoles in July. Spending by U.S. gamers in 2024 fell 1.1% in year-over-year terms, but Circana attributes this to a drop in demand for hardware, as spending on add-on and services conversely increased by 2% and 6%, respectively.

Black Ops 6 and Warzone 2 will launch its second season on January 28, with a ninja-themed and crossover with the “Terminator” universe.

The game's varied missions, which avoid monotony and keep surprising players throughout the campaign, were praised by both players and critics. High praise was given to the shooting mechanics and the entirely redesigned movement system, which lets characters run in any direction and shoot while falling or resting on their backs.

The campaign's duration of roughly eight hours was also commended by some reviewers, who said it feels neither too short nor too long. Many gamers agreed with the reviewers, particularly praising the zombies mode and the campaign. Black Ops 6 was deemed disappointing by some, though, and the majority of Steam complaints were about technical difficulties.

Reviews claim that the game regularly crashes or has erratic server connections, making it impossible to advance through the story mode.
