Call of Duty is currently going through tough times, and it’s not just because of declining player numbers (judging by SteamDB). Ahead of the launch of the second season of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the developers shared updates on their fight against cheaters. Since the introduction of the ranked mode in November 2024, developers suspended over 136,000 accounts, and the team continues to refine its anti-cheat measures.

The developers also mentioned improvements to server configurations, promising better connection quality moving forward.

However, these promises are not faced with optimism. Imagine, how bad the situation is if prominent content creators openly question the developers’ claims, and Reddit is already filled with posts suggesting that players haven’t noticed any real improvement in server quality or matchmaking.

Player fatigue with Call of Duty is high, and terms like SBMM (Skill-Based Matchmaking) and EOMM (Engagement Optimized Matchmaking) have become curses in the community. This crisis of trust is evident, and it remains unclear how (or if) Activision will be able to resolve it.
