YouTuber Spidey Santa, using an archived build of the first game, revealed details about the sequel to one of the most popular Spider-Man games, while artist Ian Hosfeld, who worked on both titles, shared story information and concept art.

The story was set to take place in a snow-covered New York, with Brooklyn added as a new playable area. Similar to the first game, gameplay would alternate between playing as Spider-Man and the main villain - this time Green Goblin. The latter would escape from S.H.I.E.L.D. prison along with Electro, Kraven, Rhino, and Vulture following the events of the first game.

Daredevil was planned to appear early in the game, with the protagonist teaming up with him to fight members of The Hand. In addition to the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, the story would have featured Kitty Pryde and Wolverine, who would help Parker defeat Kraven and Rhino.

Doctor Doom and Beetle were slated to appear, hinting at a potential third installment. In the finale, Norman Osborn would battle his son (as Hobgoblin) aboard a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier and kill him. Nick Fury was then supposed to execute the villain.

Interestingly, both games were written by Brian Michael Bendis, and many plot elements (such as Harry Osborn's death) from the canceled project later made their way into the Ultimate Spider-Man comic series that inspired the games.

Some gameplay and narrative elements, like team mechanics with allies and the destruction of a helicarrier, were later incorporated into Spider-Man: Web of Shadows and Spider-Man: Battle for New York.

Unfortunately, the game was ultimately canceled due to Treyarch's heavy workload on Call of Duty 3 and the licensed Spider-Man 3 game in development.
