One of the few innovations in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be a separate zombie mode, which will appear for the first time in the Modern Warfare series. The development is being handled by the experienced studio Treyarch, which previously made this a key feature of Black Ops. The team has significantly reworked the familiar rules of the zombie mode, adapting them to the modern standards of the series and bringing them closer to the rules of the DMZ mode from Warzone.

Representatives of the Treyarch team published a fresh developer blog in which they shared the main details and mechanics of the zombie mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. There, players can freely explore a huge game map, fight hordes of zombies, complete contracts, and find unique weapons.

Key features of the zombie mode:

  • The general mechanics of preparing the operative for a sortie, and the gameplay itself, strongly resemble those based on the DMZ rules.
  • In the main menu, you can select up to three operatives for a "strike team". Each strike team operative can be selected and has five different customizable equipment slots.
  • Players will have backpacks of different sizes to carry useful items.
  • You can carry up to two guns. Weapons are lost upon character death, but they can be replaced with any other from the cache or contraband versions.
  • Field upgrades in zombie mode have been reworked, now allowing to restore health to fighters, make them invisible, and provide other advantages in combat.
  • During the game, you can obtain Aetherium — a special currency that is necessary for upgrading weapons and creating new items.
  • This mode features a system of perks that can be found during the game or crafted before a sortie. They provide a strong advantage in combat by reducing recoil and increasing damage.
  • Players will be able to use poisonous, freezing, electric, and incendiary ammunition.
  • Unique weapons that can be crafted from found blueprints will be available for the mode.
  • Players will have access to an entire exclusion zone of Urzikstan with a multi-level storyline consisting of different missions.

The release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is scheduled for November 10 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
