Escape from Tarkov wipe was supposed to happen before the New Year — the reason being the special, less difficult quest for the Kappa container. Now, the developers have confirmed the exact update time. It will take place on December 26 at 7:00 AM GMT / 2:00 AM EST. After the maintenance, the game will be updated to version 0.16.0.0 (and Tarkov Arena will be updated to 0.2.5.0).
As usual, the game will be unavailable for about 8 hours, though in previous instances, updates took even longer. To keep players entertained, Battlestate Games announced that they will release a New Year Special on Twitch at 4:00 PM GMT / 11:00 AM EST. What will be featured is still unknown, but additional content will certainly be welcome.
What’s new in update 0.16.0.0?
First off, the version number 0.16.0.0 indicates that we won’t be getting the full release of the game just yet, meaning we’ll likely have to wait until 2025. Now, onto potential features.
First, we expect the game to transition to the Unity 2022 engine. This has been planned for a long time, and looking at the developers' plans for 2024, the switch should have already happened, though not all plans turn into reality right away.
Second, it’s expected that the developers will overhaul the weapon recoil system. This is a crucial change, as it could directly impact success or failure in the game.
We’re also expecting new weapons, such as the RPG-26. The Customs map should also be reworked, and we’ll see some interesting changes. It’s also confirmed that several bugs will be fixed and QoL improvements will be made, though the engine upgrade could bring new issues. We'll see how it turns out.
