The Half-Life series has long carried an aura of anticipation — fans are still waiting for the third chapter of Gordon Freeman's adventures. However, a few years ago, enthusiasts took up the task themselves. The fan project Project Borealis has finally released a teaser for its prologue.

Project Borealis is based on a draft script for the continuation of Half-Life, which was published by former series writer Marc Laidlaw in 2017.

The teaser is short but incredibly atmospheric, showcasing snow-covered locations in Ravenholm. Fans of the series will immediately recognize areas from Half-Life 2, where Gordon had to fend off monsters using the environment. At the end of the teaser, the words "Fall 2024" appear, suggesting that fans can expect news about Project Borealis or even the release of the playable prologue in the coming months.

The events in the prologue will take place before the main storyline of Project Borealis. The director of the fan-made game's studio explained that this decision was made to place players in a familiar setting. The project is being developed on Unreal Engine 5, but with a strong emphasis on recreating the feel of Valve's Source engine — this includes movement, physics, combat, and the overall atmosphere.

The release date for Project Borealis remains unknown. The developers have been cautious about revealing news, although they have previously shown concept art and shared some tracks from the game's soundtrack.
