While previewing Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Hideo Kojima surprised fans by hinting at a possible third game. Although he’s not interested in personally directing the project, he acknowledged that the idea for a new entry already exists—and the world he’s building could support endless expansions.

According to Kojima, the new mechanic called Plate Gate—which enables intercontinental travel—creates opportunities for future titles to unfold in any country. This opens up an endless stream of sequels, each exploring different regions of the world. However, Kojima emphasized that he doesn’t plan to personally continue the story.

"I don’t plan to make it myself,” Kojima said, “but if someone else takes it on, there’s a real chance for it to happen.”

Death Stranding 2 launches on June 26 for PS5. The game is set in Australia and integrates the Plate Gate mechanic, which could allow for limitless future narratives—even if Kojima only serves as the conceptual architect.
