Hideo Kojima presented materials for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach during the Tokyo Game Show 2024. The developer showcased several cutscenes, each lasting about two minutes, where viewers could see the protagonist's allies and learn their names.
For instance, George Miller's character, the captain of the mobile base Magellan, which travels through lakes of tar, is named Tarman. Fatih Akin's character, Dollman, is a living doll and a former medium who lost his human form. Léa Seydoux returns as Fragile.
The mysterious character played by Elle Fanning is named Tomorrow. According to the plot, she was found in an otherworldly place resembling the realm of the dead. Interestingly, the original Death Stranding slogan was "Tomorrow is in your hands."
In one cutscene, the characters interact with a pregnant woman named Rainy (played by Shioli Kutsuna) and sing the classic song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head," written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
Kojima also demonstrated the photo mode, featuring a special function where one or more characters can pose, dance, and goof around for Sam, allowing for dynamic photo opportunities. Kojima emphasized that even this feature will be tied to the narrative of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
A release date was not provided during the presentation. Kojima mentioned that the game is about "30-40% complete," and while Kojima Productions has a tentative release window, plans could change due to various factors.
