Renowned Forbes journalist and Bungie product expert Paul Tassi expressed concerns about the project's visual components. He particularly focused on one character whose in-game appearance falls significantly short of the quality seen in promo renders and cinematics. While Tassi acknowledges this is due to the early development stage, such discrepancies still raise concerns for him.

Marathon's art director, Joseph Cross, responded to these statements by clarifying the current situation. As the developer explained, the alpha version primarily showcases gameplay mechanics, while graphical elements are still undergoing active refinement. The team aims to bring the final visual quality as close as possible to the level seen in promotional materials.

Marathon has indeed faced criticism for its visuals: many gamers disliked the colorful palette, the mix of realistic and stylized environments, the simplified "angular" models (weapons, environments, and partially the characters themselves), as well as the barely detailed textures.

Marathon is expected to launch on September 23 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series. Currently, Bungie continues to polish the project ahead of release.
