Sometimes, big game franchises are back! It's been 20 years since the first Painkiller was released, and now it's time for the next chapter. 3D Realms, Saber Interactive, and Anshar Studios have announced a new entry in the Painkiller series—essentially a reimagining of the franchise with co-op gameplay.

Painkiller will retain the spirit of the original 2004 game—players will once again battle hordes of demons using brutal weapons, including the iconic stake gun. The game will focus on cooperative play, allowing players to tackle the campaign solo or with up to three friends. There will be four playable characters, each with unique abilities, such as increased health or enhanced firepower.

The trailer showcases players bringing order to Purgatory, with environments that feel atmospheric and vast. Of course, the main draw is the gameplay, and the trailer looks promising—fast, brutal, and fun.

The shooter is being developed for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, with a release expected this fall. Can’t wait!
