Sony explained the reason behind the PSN outage that lasted almost a full day this weekend. In a social media post, the company described the cause as an "operational issue" but did not provide further details or explain how similar situations would be prevented in the future.
As compensation, PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive five additional days of subscription, which will be automatically added to their plans.
Throughout the day, players experienced issues during gameplay—more than a third couldn't log in, while others complained about server crashes.
Sony requires a PSN account even for single-player games on PC, and these outages confirm the concerns of players who have opposed this policy.
This is not the first time when PSN was down for a substantial amount of time. In April 2011, there was a huge data breach that led to more than 20 days of connection problems. Of course, the current accident is less dramatic, but PS5 users are not quite satisfied with the lack of feedback from Sony.
