While Remedy Entertainment is relatively off radars now (if we don't count the story with their strategic partners Annapurna who recently lost the entire division), its creative director, Sam Lake, is known for his creative ideas, even when it comes to character deaths. He shared how he "politely" asked the developers of Alan Wake 2 to change one of the key scenes. Spoilers follow.

Lake admitted that he requested much more blood in the death scene of Alex Casey, a character modeled after Sam himself. During development, the scene wasn’t as brutal, but the final version has been deemed very disturbing by fans.

It seems Sam finds the situation amusing — he even added an angel emoji to his message. The developer likely wanted to evoke stronger emotions from players with Casey’s death, which is why he insisted on making the scene more intense.

Alan Wake 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. Remedy Entertainment is currently working on the game's second expansion.
