The creators of Tekken 8 have showcased gameplay for one of the franchise's most iconic fighters — Heihachi Mishima. He is being reintroduced into the roster due to fan demand, as Heihachi has appeared in all main titles.

After the events of the previous installment, Heihachi was presumed dead — his son, Kazuya Mishima, had thrown his father's body into lava. Even the series' lead producer, Katsuhiro Harada, had stated that Heihachi was dead. His return surprised many of the other characters, as reflected in their dialogues in the trailer.

Owners of the Character Year 1 Pass will be able to try Heihachi Mishima starting September 30, while other players will see him starting October 3.

In addition to the new fighter, Tekken 8 will receive a new story chapter called Unforgotten Echoes, a new arena, and a special costume for Heihachi. The events of Unforgotten Echoes will take place before the start of the main storyline, and all players, regardless of whether they have purchased the new fighters (Eddie, Lidia, or Heihachi), will be able to play in this chapter.

As an added feature, after the update, players will also be able to select a character to display in the game’s main menu.
