A week ago, Valve launched ranked matchmaking in their new game Deadlock, allowing players to compete and discover their ratng. However, for seven days, Valve kept the design of the ranked medals a secret. As the second week began, we finally got an answer: the skill medals in Deadlock look stunning!
Some people say these medals resemble tombstones, while others see tarot cards in them. One thing Valve did well is that the higher the player's rank, the more intricate the details on the medal. This makes it easy to quickly understand a player's skill level and where they stand on the ladder.
Interestingly, along with the reveal of the medals, there have been no changes to the game's balance or mechanics yet. Given that Deadlock rankings reset every week, it would make sense to release patches around the same time to avoid disrupting statistics with sudden meta shifts. However, the reason is perhaps that Valve is still cooking the new Deadlock update, and it is simply not ready. Considering the development pace and the current state of the game, we'll be in for a long ride.
