Amidst the difficult and somewhat unclear situation at Ubisoft, various sources continue to circulate different rumors. In mid-October, speculation resurfaced on social media that Ubisoft is dissatisfied with the performance of its free-to-play shooter XDefiant and may shut down the game after its fourth season if the player base doesn't improve.

These reports caught the attention of XDefiant producer Mark Rubin. He addressed the rumors, stating that there are no plans for such drastic actions, and as recently as last week, discussions were allegedly held about supporting the game for a second year.

Rubin emphasized again that the team is focused on improving the technical state of XDefiant and preparing more content for its third and fourth seasons, which are slated to launch in the future. He acknowledged that the player count has dropped but attributed this to a lack of marketing. According to him, the developers chose to enhance the game before spending money on advertising to attract new and returning players.

In September, Rubin stated that XDefiant is definitely not dying following a report from Tom Henderson. However, given the broader situation at Ubisoft, it's clear that a sudden, drastic decision wouldn't be entirely surprising either.
