The team of modders behind the Liberty City Preservation Project has announced the closure of their project. The mod, which aimed to transfer the map of Grand Theft Auto IV into GTA V, was shut down after modders had a conversation with Rockstar Games. While we don't know the exact details of this communication, it is not hard to imagine possible scenarios.

The LCPP mod fully recreated the map, interiors, pedestrians, vehicles, and various scripts from the world of GTA IV on the GTA V engine. The modification worked in both single-player and multiplayer modes (including FiveM), replacing the main map. The project had been in development for several years, with its release taking place in January 2025.

However, less than a week after its launch, Rockstar Games contacted the mod’s creators and demanded they shut it down. The modding team stated that they would continue creating content related to the GTA franchise, but their exact plans remain unclear.

This isn’t the first time Rockstar Games and Take-Two have acted against fan-made modifications. Previous projects targeted include a mod enhancing AI in GTA V and reverse-engineered versions of GTA III and Vice City. In the latter case, Take-Two and the modders even pursued legal action against each other, though they eventually reached a settlement.
