AMD has quietly launched the Radeon RX 9070 GRE (Golden Rabbit Edition) in China, positioning it between the upcoming RX 9060 XT and RX 9070 within its RDNA 4 lineup. Based on the same NAVI 48 GPU as the RX 9070 but with a cut-down configuration — 3072 stream processors and 12GB GDDR6 memory — the card is aimed at high-refresh-rate 1080p and QHD gaming.

However, early reviews suggest that while the RX 9070 GRE brings RDNA 4 to the table, it doesn’t deliver a significant leap in performance compared to its predecessor.

In benchmarks and real-game tests, the RX 9070 GRE performs nearly on par with the RX 7900 GRE , an RDNA 3-based graphics card priced at $549 . This raises concerns about generational progress, especially considering the RX 9070 GRE is expected to launch under $500 . While the older model offers 16GB of GDDR6 memory , the newer card trades capacity for potential power efficiency and architectural enhancements — though these don’t translate into major frame rate gains.

When compared to its more powerful sibling, the RX 9070 , the GRE variant lags by around 15% , which is a noticeable gap for cards within the same generation. That said, it still holds its own against NVIDIA’s upcoming RTX 5070 , trailing by only about 5% on average — although in some titles, the gap widens to 20% .

Where the RX 9070 GRE shines is when pitted against the rumored RTX 5060 Ti . In many games, it pulls ahead by 27–30% , making it a strong option for gamers seeking top-tier performance just below flagship-level cards.

It's important to note that the RX 9070 GRE isn't meant to compete directly with the RTX 5060 Ti . That role will likely be taken by the upcoming RX 9060 XT , built on the less powerful NAVI 44 chip. The RX 9060 XT is expected to debut at Computex 2025 , further fleshing out AMD’s RDNA 4 desktop lineup.

For now, the RX 9070 GRE is exclusive to China, but given the earlier release pattern of the RX 7900 GRE, there’s a chance it could expand to global markets later this year or in early 2026.
