The European Union has agreed on the world's first law on the use of AI technologies. The document contains numerous rules regulating the application of artificial intelligence in various fields: medicine, transport, financial services, and education.

The technologies now regulated by the law include:

  • "Social scoring" systems that analyze citizen data and divide them into different groups;
  • Predictive policing systems used for "individual risk assessment";
  • Emotion recognition systems in workplaces and schools;
  • High-risk AI systems — self-driving cars, financial and educational services, medical devices.

The law also imposes strict restrictions on generative AI, which includes ChatGPT, Midjourney, and others. Now, developers of such neural networks will need to comply with copyright legislation, test cybersecurity, and disclose data about the neural network's training.

The law will take effect in 2025. Existing neural networks, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot, will have 36 months to adapt to the new rules.
