Mike Fisher, an advisor to Krafton and a professor at the University of Southern California, had conflicting feelings about Grand Theft Auto 6. In an interview, he pointed out that the game's success might have a "disruptive effect" on other projects' sales.

According to Fisher, the scale of GTA 6 has the potential to change players' habits.

“I worry that GTA 6 will be so comprehensive that players will spend all their money and time on it,” he said.

Despite the confidence of some colleagues that other genres such as racing and sports simulators will retain an audience, the professor doubts this.

Fisher recalled the situation with the release of Fallout 4, when the project “overshadowed” the release of Microsoft's exclusive Tomb Raider game. Although the games were from different genres, the success of Fallout had a significant impact on sales of Lara Croft's adventures.

“We've never seen a game of the caliber of GTA 6. Its impact will be a challenge for the whole industry.”

But he sees positives as well. The release of GTA 6 could spur sales of next-generation consoles and high-performance gaming PCs.

“So far we haven't had a real system-seller that would encourage players to switch to a new device en masse. GTA 6 could be just such a game.”

Despite the concerns, the industry will stabilize post-release, according to EA. And while GTA 6 has the potential to be a “generational game,” its success could be a driver for the entire gaming industry.
