Netflix decided to give all sports comedy fans a Christmas gift. The platform released a trailer for Happy Gilmore 2 — the sequel to the beloved film about the unlucky hockey player who found his calling on the golf course.

Adam Sandler has once again returned to the role almost three decades after the original film's release. The characters may not be any younger, but the rivalry with Shooter McGavin is still expected to be intense, even after all these years.

Not much is known about the film: it will be available on Netflix, though the exact release date hasn't been announced yet, but it will be in 2025. In addition to several actors from the first film, the sequel will feature Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift's boyfriend and American football player Travis Kelce, and professional wrestler Maxwell Friedman, better known as MJF.

The first film largely became the springboard that helped Adam Sandler rise to fame, but the current trend of sequels does raise some concerns. We’ll be happy to be proven wrong.
