In the popular 3DMark Time Spy benchmark, the RTX 5080 scored 32,701 points, which is 10% less than the RTX 4090. In Geekbench tests with Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, the card scored 281,746 points in Vulkan mode and 278,138 in OpenCL. In comparison, the RTX 4090 achieves 365,013 and 337,319 points in the same tests respectively, up 23% and 17.6%.
Although compared to the RTX 4080 the new model shows a small increase - about 8-9% depending on the test, this result looks weak against the expectations for the new series. Usually the XX8X series of the new generation surpassed the flagships of the past, but in the case of the RTX 5080 this was not confirmed.
It's important to remember that synthetic performance tests don't always reflect the real capabilities in games. Perhaps the real advantages of the RTX 5080 will show up in modern gaming projects. At the moment the graphics card evokes mixed feelings, and its success depends on the final gaming tests and driver optimization.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang responded to criticism regarding the new RTX 5090 GPU's outrageous price by saying that true enthusiasts won't find it problematic. He stated in an interview following his CES 2025 presentation that gamers who are prepared to shell out $1999 for a flagship model are not interested in sacrificing quality for a $100 discount.
He claimed that these users are constantly searching for the best rather than something "a little worse" at a lower cost.
