The head of Microsoft's gaming division, Phil Spencer, commented on the announcement of the release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PS5 in the spring of 2025. Previously, he had stated that the action game from MachineGames would be an Xbox console exclusive.

Spencer reminded that in the spring of 2024, Microsoft released Pentiment, Hi-Fi RUSH, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded on PS5. At that time, the company stated that they would analyze how these games perform on Sony's platform and then decide whether to continue in that direction.

Xbox sees releasing its games on PlayStation as an opportunity to expand in yet another direction, Spencer said. According to him, Microsoft's franchises are becoming stronger, and the number of players on Xbox consoles in 2024 is "greater than ever". However, the company is in the business of growth, so they are exploring options for further development.

Spencer noted that Microsoft leadership provides incredible support for the gaming division. Despite this, Xbox needs to evolve, and releasing games on other platforms will allow that to happen.

Players should be prepared for some traditional methods of game creation and distribution to change, Spencer concluded. This is because the industry is under significant pressure.
