Everyone is talking about the imminent announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, which is expected to happen very soon if not literally any day now. The design of the console was allegedly shown at CES 2025 by an accessory manufacturer, and Nintendo itself has stated that the announcement will occur before the end of March.

While we don’t yet have much concrete information about the Switch successor, some analysts are already sharing their sales forecasts. Renowned analyst Mat Piscatella predicts that around 4.3 million units will be sold in the U.S. alone this year. Furthermore, he expects this figure to account for one-third of all gaming consoles sold in the U.S. in 2025 — excluding portable PCs.

However, Piscatella raises questions about the initial supply of the console. He suggests that Nintendo might have preemptively manufactured a significant number of units to avoid the shortages faced by companies like Sony with the PS5. Even so, the analyst believes that Sony will retain its sales crown, largely thanks to the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI.
