Jez Corden, a well-known insider when it comes to Microsoft and Xbox, shared some big details in his newest episode of XB2 podcast. So what should we expect in a couple of years?
According to Corden, Microsoft is going to make the future-gen Xbox even more PC-like. It might have an OS that will be similar to vanilla Windows With Xbox looking to be a portable PC, there are two interesting possibilities:
- Xbox is fully embracing the Steam Machines concept and will compete with Valve and its ecosystem.
- Game development for Xbox should become easier, as there will be less difference between PC and Xbox versions of the same title.
Imagine that game developers would know the potential hardware specifications of the future Xbox. Game developers will have a clear optimization target. However, this might bring Xbox to decline. They already struggle with selling consoles, and competition with Steam when it comes to games… The only competitive advantage that comes to mind is the Game Pass. But will it get enough players and traction? These are tough predictions to make.
But let's get back to Corden. He believes that the future-gen Xbox will be released not earlier than 2027. Currently, there is no news about the handheld device either. Yet, this information is a great food for thoughts.
