In 2023, Riot Games split the LoL ranked season into 2 parts, which positively impacted player engagement. Therefore, in the next season, ranks will reset three times. The competitive season will last until December. Players can also earn 3 "victorious" skins.

Extending the ranked season will increase user engagement, especially for those who like competitive modes. Previously, there was a drop in active players during the offseason. From 2024, the offseason will end in January, right before the new split starts.

Since shortening the offseason could negatively impact pro players, update patches will be available on the PBE server. Esports players can test updates before they're installed on live servers to prepare for competitions.

In 2023, the offseason will begin on November 20, but adjustments on the main servers will appear on January 9, 2024. The next two ranked seasons will start in May and September.

Thus, LoL's ranked matches will no longer align with the esports season, which traditionally ends with the conclusion of the 2023 World Championship. The 2023 LoL World Championship will take place from October 10 to November 19 in South Korea.
