Eli Roth, in an interview for The Town podcast, explained in detail the film's failure, linking it to the catastrophic consequences of pandemic restrictions. According to him, the entire pre-production period had to be conducted via Zoom, which eliminated the possibility of live communication and coordinated work. The filming process was constantly disrupted due to quarantine measures, while the cast and technical crew were physically scattered across different countries.
The situation with reshoots became particularly dramatic—Roth left the project before their completion. The film was finished by Tim Miller (known for Deadpool and Terminator: Dark Fate). Roth himself openly admits:
While watching the finished film, I truly didn't know what to expect from a work that formally bears my name.
The release of the game adaptation was originally planned for 2021 but was postponed three times. The film's box office earnings amounted to $46 million against a $100 million budget. As for ratings, the film received 4.4/10 on IMDB and 31% on Rotten Tomatoes.
