The release of Overwatch 2 in 2022 marked the end of the original Overwatch. However, Blizzard has decided to bring back the iconic classic — though only temporarily. The name Overwatch: Classic doesn’t signify a standalone version of the original game (as with World of Warcraft Classic), but rather a series of limited-time in-game events.

The first Classic event kicks off on November 12. For three weeks, players will be able to return to 2016, the very beginning of the shooter’s journey. Players will have access to 21 heroes, using only standard skins and original abilities. There will be 12 maps available for battle — some of which will retain their updated look — and four game modes. During the first few days of the event, teams will have no composition restrictions, but afterward, the limit of only one unique hero per team will be reinstated.

It’s worth noting that Overwatch 2 has faced repeated criticism from players. After its launch on Steam, the game quickly became one of the lowest-rated titles on the platform based on user reviews. Over time, fans who hoped for the growth of their beloved game rather than a replacement have continued to voice their discontent, with Overwatch 2 still receiving mostly negative reviews on Steam. Whether the Overwatch: Classic event will help improve its reception remains to be seen.
