Yesterday, it was surprising to learn about a new lawsuit from Epic Games. The lawsuit was triggered by the auto-blocking feature that prevents the installation of apps downloaded from sources other than the Play Store on Samsung smartphones.

Google VP Engineering, Android Security and Privacy, Dave Kleidermacher, called this move by Epic Games meritless and dangerous and denied having requested Samsung to add any extra protective feature. The company reminded that Android smartphone manufacturers are free to take additional steps to ensure security on their devices.

According to Kleidermacher's statement, there are real risks when you decide to get apps from alternative sources, and this issue has been highlighted by authorities in many countries. For this reason, Google developed its own solution, which scans all apps on a device and does not oppose additional safety measures taken by manufacturers.

Kleidermacher further stated that with this lawsuit, Epic Games seems to prioritize its corporate interests over the safety concerns of users. As usual, we will have to wait for quite some time, as legal departments of both tech giants are likely to grind each other very hard. We'll refrain from any predictions, but will follow this topic.
