While more platforms are working on integrating AI, OpenAI is reportedly preparing the reverse Uno card. It might go head-to-head with X. According to The Verge, the early prototype has its main goal of combining AI image generation with a timeline feed — think ChatGPT making memes and viral posts in a scrollable app.
It’s still unclear whether this will be a brand-new app or just part of ChatGPT, but the goal seems clear: make sharing AI-made content easy and fun. One insider from a rival AI company even admitted that X’s integration with Grok made other teams "jealous," especially how users use it to generate funny, viral tweets.
The idea first popped up a couple of months ago when Meta was reportedly building a standalone AI app to take on ChatGPT. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has been gathering outside feedback on the project, hinting that it’s moving forward. Meanwhile, Meta’s own X-style app, Threads, launched in 2023 and gained traction fast thanks to its tie-in with Instagram.
With ChatGPT blowing up in 2025 — especially after the Ghibli-style image trend went viral — OpenAI might just have enough momentum to shake up the social media world next.
