Valve has announced a new system for checking if games on Steam are compatible with devices running SteamOS — but not the Steam Deck. Starting soon, games in the store will include a special tag showing whether they’re supported on third-party gadgets using SteamOS.

The first of these devices is the Legion Go S, which launches at the end of May. From now on, games that work properly on SteamOS (outside the Deck) will be labeled as "Supported." If they don't run well or have issues, they'll be marked as "Unsupported." However, Valve made it clear that this label only covers software compatibility — it won’t reflect how well a game performs on a specific device. That means some surprises or bugs might still pop up depending on your hardware.

The good news for developers is that they won’t need to do anything extra. If a game has already been verified for Steam Deck, it’ll automatically get the SteamOS compatibility label too. Valve will keep testing new releases like usual to determine if they’re a match for both the Steam Deck and SteamOS gadgets.
