YouTube keeps experimenting with its premium plans. This time, they are clearly inspired by one popular music streaming service. Instead of forcing couples or roommates to pay full price for separate plans, Google is trying out a two-person subscription, similar to Spotify’s popular Duo option.

This new plan is currently available in India, France, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. It lets a primary account holder share all the usual Premium perks — like ad-free videos and background play — with one other person in their household. Both users get their own personalized experience, with separate watch histories and subscriptions, but they split the cost.

In India, for example, a solo Premium subscription costs about $1.70 a month, while this new two-person plan is only $2.50. That’s way cheaper than paying for two separate plans, and still less than the $3.50 family plan that covers up to five people.

If the plan rolls out globally, it could land in the U.S. at around $19, which would save users nearly $10 compared to paying for two Premium accounts separately.

It’s still unclear when (or if) this new tier will launch in more countries. But with ads on the rise and Premium prices going up, this could be a great way for friends, couples, and roommates to save cash while still enjoying an ad-free YouTube.
