Since the Asian-Pacific RMR followed a somewhat unconventional format with fewer slots and participants, the Americas RMR needed to showcase to fans how the format of qualifiers via Swiss stage works.
To recap, from the Americas RMR — just like the upcoming two European RMR tournaments — seven out of sixteen teams qualify for the Shanghai Major. Teams play in a Swiss format: those with 3-0 and 3-1 records advance directly, and the 3-2 team with the best Buchholz score qualifies automatically. The remaining two teams with 3-2 stat face off in an additional match for the final slot.
Because the first two rounds are played in a Best-of-One format, surprises are possible. However, to secure a spot at the Major, teams must win in a Best-of-Three series. Over four days of competition, the only real surprise was the strong performance of Wildcard Gaming. The club, co-owned by Amouranth, impressed with their preparation and finished the event with a 3-0 record.
Major organizations like Team Liquid, Complexity, and FURIA also successfully advanced from this RMR, and now only have two weeks to prepare for the Shanghai Major.
