For the first time in the recent history, the victory at Mid-Season Invitational brought not only prestige to a region, but also a practical bonus for the champion. This year the team that finished first at the MSI 2024, gets a spot in the Worlds (unless it fails to reach the playoffs). While this is the defence against one-tournament cinderellas, it is very unlikely we will see such a case with Gen.G Esports.

Gen.G Esports won LCK Spring Split, got the number one seed, and established itself as the dominant force. It lost only 4 maps across all four series, eliminating both LPL teams. In the final two rounds Gen.G beat Bilibili Gaming twice with the same score of 3:1.

The rivalry between LCK and LPL has been very strong, but at MSI the Chineses team usually got the preference. Last time, the Korean team won the Mid-Season Invitational in 2017. Back then Faker and SKT T1 were triumphant. This time, the greatest of all time finished third. Considering the difficulties that T1 had throughout the Spring Split, this is a very decent result.

Gen.G became the first participant of the Worlds 2024, LCK will earn an extra spot, and we'll see four Korean teams in Europe this Fall.
