League of Legends has 170 champions, so the 2XKO fighting game spinoff should have many characters in it, right?. But turns out, the game’s launching with way fewer characters than fans might’ve expected.

During an AMA session on their official 2XKO Discord, director Shaun Rivera gave a pretty honest answer: 10. Unsurprisingly, we already know most of them. During the second beta, we’ve seen Ahri, Braum, Darius, Ekko, Illaoi, Jinx, and Yasuo in the mix. So, three surprise spots are left.

This feels like a pretty small roster, especially since we saw some early footage in 2019. It’s been years in the making, so launching with only 10 characters is definitely surprising. For comparison, Dragon Ball FighterZ, a team fighting game, got some heat for 24 characters at launch. We still don’t know how Riot will handle post-launch characters—whether they’ll be paid or if there’ll be free rotations.

It’s a tough choice for the devs, but it’ll be interesting to see how players and fans of League of Legends react when the game finally drops.
